Based on the investigation on the tribological behaviors of PTFE/Ni-P coating under the lubrication of seawater and the solutions of seawater constituents, the difference of lubrication effect between seawater and pure water was discussed, and the influence of seawater constituents on the lubrication effect of seawater was elucidated. The results show that the friction coefficient of PTFE/Ni-P and the wear rate of PTFE under the lubrication of ( MgCI2 + CaC12 + SrC12 ) solution are the lowest, followed by under the lubrication of seawater, whereas they are the largest under the lubrication of pure water. This indicates that seawater has better lubrication effect than pure water, and the solutes dissolved in seawater are beneficial to the lubrication effect of seawater;the lubrication effect of seawater depends on the bivalent metal salts therein, mainly Ca^2+ and Mg^2+.
