Objective To evaluate the reasons of infection in augmentation rhinoplasty using ePTFE,and the way to prevent infection. Methods A series of proposals were provided to prevent the infection in augmentation rhinoplasty using ePTFE with 26 cases. Results of clinical application were observed by follow-up 6~12 months. Results Morbidity of infection was decreased to 0% of 26 cases in 6~12 months post-operation that was apparently different from the 13.3% before proposals applicated.Possible reasons leading to infection were considered and corresponding treatments were provided. Conclusion Used properly, ePTFE is an ideal alloplast for augmentation rhinoplasty. Although the microporous structure made it infected easily, it could be prevented by strictly sterile operation.
